Billy S. Shoemaker, Mayor
Billy S. Shoemaker
was elected as Mayor of the City of Tuscumbia in
August of 2004 and began his term in October. He
was re-elected in October of 2008 for a second
term.
He attended Florence State College and The
University of Alabama where he studied civil
engineering. Bill began working for the
Alabama Highway Department in the year 1953 as
an engineer assistant. From 1980 through
1996, Bill supervised all highway operations in
the six northwest counties. Alabama Highway
Department presented numerous commendations and
awards to him for his accomplishments. He
retired as Division Engineer in the year of 1996
with forty years of service. Bill is
currently the owner and operator of a surveying
firm located in Tuscumbia.
Bill is involved in community and civic
organizations, and has served on numerous boards
including the United Way of the Shoals, Shoals
Chamber of Commerce, Tuscumbia Housing Authority
and the Kiwanis Club.
He is married to Pat Johnston Shoemaker and they
have two daughters, Suzanne and Shannon, and one
granddaughter, Rebekah. They are members of
First United Methodist Church of Tuscumbia where
he serves on the official board.
